Fundraising for BackCare

£1,200 may sound a lot of money (and it is to us), but the average runner for charities last year raised £1,500, so it is easily achievable.
  • If you are getting serious about running the Flora London Marathon, start training now while the days are long and warm!

  • If you are fairly inexperienced, start with long walks (30 mins) interspersed with short jogs (1 min), and gradually build up to more frequent and longer jogs.

  • Take rest days or cycle instead of walk on some days to build up your fitness level.

  • By the end of two weeks, you should be aiming to walk for three minutes then jog for three minutes for up to an hour a day.

  • Running with others can be more motivating than running on your own, so think about joining a running club or persuading friends at a local sports centre or gym to join you.

  • We will send more information to all those who pledge to run for BackCare.
Once you sign your pledge to raise £1,200 (or more) for BackCare, we will send you a pack of information to help, including sponsorship forms, collecting boxes and information on setting up your own Just Giving sponsorship webpage. Here are a few fundraising ideas to get you thinking:

  • Organise a barbecue or party for friends and charge an "admission fee"

  • Sponsorship forms are the most useful way of persuading people to make a donation. Take them with you everywhere - to parties and school open days. Put them up on notice-boards at work, sports centre and social club. It only takes 40 people to donate £1 per mile and you will have raised more than £1,000!

  • Get support from your church, synagogue, temple or mosque. Put a sponsorship form in all your Christmas Cards to family, friends and clients.

  • Set up your own Just Giving sponsorship webpage – all you do is create your page, email it to your friends and get them to donate quickly and easily online with a credit or debit card. Plus, online donations from UK taxpayers collect a 28% bonus! (% due to change in 2008)

  • Get your employer to support you. Many firms run 'employee fundraising matching schemes' where they will match the amount you raise.
    • Will the Directors dip into their own pockets?
    • Can you arrange publicity for the firm in a local newspaper?

  • Under the Gift Aid scheme, charities can claim back the tax on all donations from all UK tax payers so, if someone donates £26, their donation is worth an additional £7.33 to BackCare! Further details are on our sponsorship forms.
