Schools “Watch Your Back” Initiative

Picture of students in a classroom To support and promote BackCare’s Protecting Young Backs campaign, BackCare Awareness Week 2006 saw the launch of our Watch Your Back schools initiative.

Schools are invited to take part in the initiative by ordering a “Watch Your Back” School’s Pack. The packs have been designed to encourage and help young people to understand about back health and learn to look after their backs. The materials and activities will help teachers lead the way in providing a safe and healthy environment for pupils to learn, play and enjoy life, without back pain.

We highlight some of the causes of back pain in the young, i.e.,
  • sitting with poor posture or for too long in one position,
  • not taking enough exercise and
  • carrying school bags which may be poorly designed and too heavy.
The “Watch Your Back” packs are full of fun, educational materials including a Power Point presentation for assemblies or PSHE lessons, posters, booklets, a board game, quiz, competitions and lots of other suggested activities. We believe the packs to be a very valuable resource for teachers, school nurses, healthy school coordinators and health and safety representatives.

We ask all those concerned about back pain in the young to encourage their local schools to join up for the “Watch Your Back” initiative which will run throughout the school year.

Packs are available to order from our online shop. BackCare shop, by clicking the following link:

This is a great opportunity to get young people involved and interested and to give them every chance of a life without back
