As a Chiropractor with over 14 years of experience, you occasionally come across a book that surprises you
because of its content. This is such a book! From the outside it looks quite heavy and hard going, but the
way it has been divided makes for very easy to read ‘chunks’ of information. All laid out in a logical pattern.
The first two chapters give you a very detailed explanation on what pain is, where it comes from and what
can be causing it. This will obviously apply to most arthritis sufferers, and other people with chronic
pain will find this very informative. The middle section of the book gives you all you need to know
about the various types of painkillers, analgesics and NSAIDS etc that you may be given by the GP.
The chapters on surgical procedures I found especially intriguing, as they are often neglected in other
self-help books.

The complementary approach, covering which herbs and other supplements may help, gets good coverage too.
There are even five pages with ‘easy-to-do’ exercises to help the whole body. All of them can be done
sitting, so everybody can benefit. Finally the interaction between stress and chronic pain is highlighted,
another bonus for this book. The last pages of the book give you a multitude of groups and organisations
that can help you even further. There is even an easy to read glossary.
All in all, one of the best self-help books for arthritis and chronic pain I have seen for years.
